Sancy’s thesis evaluated the “Development induced tribal transformation: Case study of Muthuvan and Malayarayan tribe Idukki district”. The study revealed the transformation level of two tribes also recommendation for tribe specific development programmes. She has also worked on research study focusing on wastewater irrigation in Maharashtra, a highlight document on how wastewater is utilized in irrigation and associated health aspects.

At IIHS, Sancy is part of the Engineering and Planning team for TNUSSP Project.

Sasikumar has more than 10 years of work experience. Prior to IIHS, he was involved in Improvement of Water Distribution System, Reduction in UFW & Leakage Control, BWSSB at Bangalore West Division. He was responsible for construction of all civil work related to water retaining structure and water distribution Pipe Line (Transmission main, Feeder main, Internal transmission main & Internal network).

At IIHS, Sasikumar is part of the Engineering and Planning team for TNUSSP Project.

Suneethi’s doctoral thesis was on removal of ammoniacal nitrogen from landfill leachate and sludge digestate by autotrophic processes in advanced biological systems such as Anaerobic membrane bioreactor and Moving bed biofilm reactor. She has published over 9 papers in international and national peer reviewed journals and co-authored a Book chapter. She is a recipient of UGC research fellowship for meritorious scholars in Sciences from 2007 – 2012 and also a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowship to pursue research in Columbia University, New York from 2011 – 2012. She has worked as a Project officer at IIT Madras for over 3 years, leading the team on Anaerobic biodigester operation, maintenance and monitoring and Decentralized sustainable wastewater treatment and reuse technologies for India. She has also worked as Guest faculty in the Department of ecology and environmental science at Pondicherry University.

At IIHS, she will be working as Specialist at the Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP).

Vimala’s area of Interest is in Environmental Engineering: Solid waste Management, Water supply Engineering, Wastewater engineering and Air quality management. Her research during Post Graduation explores methods to enhance the rate of biodegradation of polyolefins using physical and biological means. (Polyolefins are Polyethylene and Ploypropylene). Two species of bacteria and fungi – were tested for their potential in utilizing polyolefins as their sole carbon source. The microbial species produced surface active compounds (Biosurfactants) that enhance the degradation process. She has two publications for her thesis.

At IIHS, she will be working as a junior specialist in the Engineering and Planning section for the TNUSSP project.

Rajesh Ramamoorthy

Education: M.Tech in Water Science and Governance from TERI University, New Delhi

Rajesh Ramamoorthy is a water and sanitation practitioner. Previously, he led an independent assessment of the 24×7 water supply scheme in the city of Nagpur. Rajesh has worked on assignments that included piloting decentralized wastewater treatment solution with the Agra Cantonment Board and a tributary approach to river restoration in the state of Uttar Pradesh with multiple stakeholders.

Rajesh was involved in a civil society movement towards building city resilience in Chennai and is interested in employing multi-disciplinary approaches towards problem solving.

Reeba has a strong track record of 14 years in development research. She had earlier worked for TNS India and GfK India and has designed, implemented and managed research projects across the country for both international organisations and state governments. Her expertise includes quantitative and qualitative surveys and campaign evaluations.

Rajiv K. Raman has more than 20 years of Development Research and Consulting experience in India. He built up his knowledge-base during the initial years through the management of medium to large survey-based social research and consulting tasks in rural and urban domains, across various sectors – Water Supply and Sanitation, Energy, Natural Resource Management, Livelihoods and Decentralised Governance – and across the country. These involved interactions at multiple levels – households, communities, local governments, federal and national governments, and management of researchers/consultants from different disciplines.

Rajiv has provided strategic advisory inputs within the watsan, energy and governance areas and in the overlap amongst these, to state governments, multilateral and bilateral agencies, utilities and select NGOs. These include various aspects of program delivery including strategy, design, delivery systems and assessment metrics. His work in the energy, water and sanitation sectors reflects extensive working knowledge and comfort with diverse social group/formations, government institutions at state, district and sub-district tiers, Civil Society coalitions and Project Management agencies.

During the course of his career, Rajiv provided nearly a decade of leadership to the business practice area of Governance and Institutions Development in a premier research and consulting organisation (www.taru.org).
